Op jonge leeftijd ontdekt
Wilma Bierens is geboren in Maastricht. Op 8-jarige leeftijd werd haar unieke sopraanstem ontdekt. Wilma studeerde aan het conservatorium in haar geboortestad bij Mya Besselink en het Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam. Aan het Conservatorium Maastricht behaalde ze het DM- en UM-Diploma en operaklas-diploma Summa Cum Laude. Meteen na haar studie ontving zij de Edmond Hustinx-prijs en won ze de tweede prijs op het Cristina Deutekom Concours. Wilma werd in die tijd gecoacht door Mya Besselink, die haar de kunst van het expressieve zingen leerde. Ook heeft zij intensieve lessen gevolgd bij operazangeres Cristina Deutekom, bij Nelly Miricioiu en bij zangpedagoge Gemma Visser. In 1995 nam Wilma deel aan de IVC masterclass van Christa Ludwig in ’s-Hertogenbosch en werd zij als enige Nederlandse uitverkoren voor deelname aan het finaleconcert.
Internationaal succes
Wilma heeft zowel in binnen- als in buitenland mooie hoofdrollen in opera en operette op haar naam staan. Ook heeft Wilma een uitgebreid repertoire opgebouwd op het gebied van oratorium en lied. Ze heeft hoofdrollen gezongen bij De Hoofdstad Operette, een gezelschap dat door heel Nederland operette-producties en concerten op het podium bracht. Verder heeft Wilma gezongen in producties van onder meer de Reisopera en Opera Zuid. Daarnaast treedt ze regelmatig op met bekende koren, zoals de Mastreechter Staar en het Westlands Mannenkoor. Met deze bekende mannenkoren heeft ze ook albums opgenomen. In 1998 maakte Wilma samen met het bekende koor de Mastreechter Staar haar opwachting tijdens de opening van de Europese Centrale Bank in Frankfurt. Dit optreden werd bijgewoond door tal van Europese presidenten en werd bovendien wereldwijd uitgezonden.
Liefde voor kamermuziek
De laatste jaren heeft ook de intimiteit van kamermuziek haar hart gestolen. Het romantische repertoire heeft haar voorkeur, omdat dit aansluit op haar gevoel voor expressie. Maar ook het moderne repertoire heeft haar aandacht. Wilma trad regelmatig op in verschillende kamermuziekensembles, o.a. met klarinettist Lars Wouters van den Oudenweijer en pianist Hans Eijsackers, waarmee zij de romantische CD ‘Innenleben’ heeft opgenomen. Met het vrouwenensemble Fuego Latino heeft zij de zeer succesvolle CD ‘Fuego Latino’ uitgebracht. Samen met tenor Arnold Bezuyen en pianist Hans Eijsackers heeft ze de CD ‘Richard Strauss Lieder’ opgenomen en samen met het Stravinsky ensemble o.l.v. Walter Althammer de CD ‘Igor Stravinsky’.
Jong talent een podium bieden
Naast haar uitvoerende werk is Wilma ook op andere vlakken actief in de muziekwereld. Wilma is initiatiefneemster van Justitia Concerten Veghel, een concertserie die bijna 20 jaar de beste Nederlandse ( kamer )musici naar Veghel haalde. Deze serie zal vanaf 2025 worden voortgezet als Bierens Concerten, waarbij Bierens Advocaten een podium biedt voor jong talent. Ook is ze betrokken bij Bierens Doet, een initiatief waarbij jonge talenten optredens verzorgen in verzorgingshuizen. Wilma is daarnaast 10 jaar als docent hoofdvak zang verbonden geweest aan Fontys Conservatorium Tilburg en één van de grondleggers van de opleiding Muziektheater Klassiek.
Vanaf januari 2025 zal Bierens Arts Foundation van start gaan.
Jong talent, zowel zangers, instrumentalisten als beeldend kunstenaars worden door een commissie beoordeeld en zullen worden ondersteund in hun ontwikkeling.
Ook is ze initiatiefneemster van Bierens Doet.
Van 2006 tot 2016 was Wilma als hoofdvakdocente zang verbonden aan Fontys Conservatorium in Tilburg.
Van 2016 tot 2025 was Wilma bestuurslid ( portefeuille cultuur ) bij de Cultuurfabriek aan De Noordkade in Veghel.

Bij tweede regel toevoegen : met een groot Kerstconcert in een volledig uitverkocht Concertgebouw.
In seizoen 2022-2023 heeft Wilma een tournee gemaakt met *Wenen*New York*Parijs* wederom langs de grote Nederlandse theaters.
De Nationale Operette
In seizoen 2017-2018 maakt Wilma met ‘De Nationale Operette’ een tournee langs de grote theaters in Nederland.
Ook in seizoen 2018-2019 tourt Wilma samen met het programma Wien Bleibt Wien langs de grote Nederlandse theaters.
In seizoen 2019-2020 heeft Wilma een tournee gemaakt met Winter in Wien, wederom langs de grote Nederlandse theaters.
Discovered at an early age
Wilma Bierens was born in Maastricht, the Netherlands. At the age of 8, her unique soprano voice was discovered. In her hometown, Wilma studied with Mya Besselink and in Amsterdam at the Sweelinck Conservatory. She obtained in Conservatory Maastricht her summa cum laude diplomas for lecturing musician, performing musician and for opera class. Immediately after her studies, she received the Dutch Edmond Hustinx Prize and won second prize at the Cristina Deutekom Competition. At that time, Wilma was coached by Mya Besselink, who taught her the art of expressive singing. She also followed intensive lessons with opera singer Cristina Deutekom, with Nelly Miricioiu and with vocal teacher Gemma Visser. In 1995, Wilma took part in the International Vocal Competition masterclass of Christa Ludwig in Den Bosch, the Netherland, and was the only Dutch singer chosen to participate in the final concert.
International success
Wilma has sung leading roles in opera and operetta both at home and abroad. Wilma has also built up an extensive repertoire in the field of oratorio and lied. She has sung leading roles with De Hoofdstad Operette, a company that brought operetta productions and concerts to the stage throughout the Netherlands. Wilma has sung in productions by the Reisopera and Opera Zuid, to name a few. She performs regularly with well-known choirs, such as the Mastreechter Staar and the Westlands Mannenkoor. She has recorded several albums with these well-known male choirs. In 1998 Wilma performed with the famous choir the Mastreechter Staar at the opening of the European Central Bank in Frankfurt. This performance was attended by numerous European presidents and broadcast worldwide.
Love of chamber music
In recent years, the intimacy of chamber music has stolen her heart. She prefers the Romantic repertoire because it suits her sense of expression. But modern repertoire has her attention as well. Wilma performed regularly in various chamber music ensembles, including with clarinettist Lars Wouters van den Oudenweijer and pianist Hans Eijsackers, with whom she recorded the romantic CD ‘Innenleben’. With the women’s ensemble Fuego Latino, she released the highly successful CD ‘Fuego Latino’. Together with tenor Arnold Bezuyen and pianist Hans Eijsackers, she recorded the CD ‘Richard Strauss Lieder’ and together with the Stravinsky ensemble led by Walter Althammer the CD ‘Igor Stravinsky’.
Offering young talent a stage
In addition to her work as a performing artist, Wilma is active in other areas of the music world as well. For example, she is chairman and initiator of the Dutch Sterren Theater Concerten (Stars Theatre Concerts), an initiative that provides talented young musicians with a stage to develop themselves. Also, she is involved in Bierens Doet, an initiative where young talents give performances in nursing homes. Wilma has been a teacher of singing for 10 years at Fontys Conservatoire Tilburg, the Netherlands, and founder of the Music Theatre Classical course
De Nationale Operette
In season 2017-2018, Wilma was touring with ‘De Nationale Operette’ along the major theatres in the Netherlands.
In season 2018-2019, Wilma has toured with the programme Wien Bleibt Wien along the major Dutch theatres once again.
In season 2019-2020 Wilma has toured with the programme Winter in Wien, also along the major Dutch theatres.
